Review: Who really likes to go to the dentist? With its screeching drills and spiky tools. Just terrifying! That is why Flossy, the great white shark, never went to one. She also didn’t have the greatest teeth. So jaggedy and yellow. Then his mama finds the Dolphin Dentist, “the Gentle Dentist of the Sea.” But there was one problem: No sharks were allowed.
But, fortunately, the mama
wouldn’t take no for an answer.
“Flossy is the Queen of the Seas. She will not leave until Dr. Dribble sees her.”
Still, the Dolphin Dentist didn’t
want to. And can you blame him? Who wants to work on a shark’s teeth with giant
jaws and crushing teeth? Perhaps a little white lie might do the trick. But
then guilt settles in on the poor dentist.
“How could his fear of sharks cause him to be so unkind?”
Can the two set aside their fears and realize that there really wasn’t anything to fear at all?
The illustrations with its bright
and vivid colors just naturally popped and jumped out at you. Absolutely loved
it! I loved the caricature style of the mother shark. So outrageously funny! I
liked the underwater scenery, which was something right out of the Little
Mermaid. My favorite part would have to be the animated expressions of the sea
creatures. And it wasn’t just the illustrations that were front and center, the
artist also highlighted some of the text by changing the size and adding
contrast to the pages—all elements that direct the readers’ eyes.
