“I want you
to find my dead husband.” What?
That’s why
she came to Reed Ferguson, a detective and a fan of noir movies and books. He
needed to prove to his father that he could solve a real case and this was his
first one.
“So I’m
supposed to find your presumably dead husband, whom you wanted to kill but deny
that you did, and now that he’s gone, you want him back.” (9) Weird.
For being
his first case, he goes through the tasks of solving it like a check-off list.
He goes through all the steps and narrates them in the story. He realizes that
he find a woman (client) right out of the movies—darkly seductive and probably
dangerous.
The case was
interesting, but the story was slow, even though the narrative was easy to
follow. It’s good if you like those old-time detective stories.
