The Unforgetting
by Bonnie Traymore
Genre: Psychological Thriller, Suspense
Review: A 10-year college reunion at a remote cabin in the woods to remember the tragic death of a friend. Now, Reagan was returning with something she knew about that “accidental” death.
In the beginning—before she even gets to the cabin—Reagan gives us the low-down about her post-partum depression since having the baby and all her problems before then. It wasn’t exactly riveting, but it gave us a good look at her life. She doesn’t get to the cabin until chapter 6 when it really starts to pick up. The narrative, especially on Reagan’s side, can get a little long-winded, making the read feel longer than it should.
When the old friends start to congregate and talk, which bring back more memories of that fateful night for Reagan, it gets more interesting. Based on the narrative, Ella seems to be the one that wants to keep Lanie’s death buried with something she hoped wouldn’t come up. But what?
Little by little, we learn more about that tragic night. Each new tidbit keeps you immersed, eager to find out more. It gets even better when one member of the group dies and they all turn on each other. It just makes you keep turning those pages. The conclusion, of course, wasn’t as exciting as I expected it to be, but it ended rather neatly. A good read!
