Natalie Raines, a famed theater actress, was found shot to death in her home. Her husband was set to trial for the murder. Emily, the assistant prosecutor, was assigned to the case. Emily was working around the clock to make sure Gregg went to prison for life for the crime she knew he committed. As of most of Ms. Clark’s books, this book had an interesting premise; however, the trial was rather long and detailed. In fact, the trial was certainly taking a lot of energy and effort for both the reader and the character. Emily didn’t quite realize that her creepy neighbor had his eye on her and has killed before. How will he take her rejection? Not well.
Meanwhile, Gregg was sweating the case. He knew in his heart that he couldn’t have murdered Natalie Raines, his estranged wife. But there was niggling doubt over whether he actually could’ve.
It’s a long trial, for sure, going through every menial step and every dull questioning. Not as suspenseful as other MHC books, but still intriguing. It’s good if you’re into the logistics of trials. You honestly get to a certain point when you just get tired of hearing about the trial and wanna put down the book.
A fairly nice
read, but not one of the author’s best.
