Review: SINCERELY HARRIET by Sarah W. Searle

13-year old Harriet Flores just moved to Chicago and was in for the most boring summer of her life. There’s nothing to do when she’s home all day and her parents are at work. She stays sane by writing letters—letters that get no response. She fiddles around the house and befriends a lady named Pearl, who encourages her to read books. Well, she tries to read. Harriet is basically tired of having nothing to do. Meanwhile, she waits on the mail, eager to get a response from any of her old camp mates back home. Geez, the letter she gets back is mean!

One thing that brings a smile to Harriet’s face is spending time with her abuela, making homemade tortillas and dancing.

A good story about a young girl finding her way.

Nice, colorful illustrations.

My rating: 4 stars
