EXCLUSIVE EXCERPT

You see, ever since I was a little girl, I wondered why when angels appeared to people in the Bible, the people were always afraid. Their fear always forced the angels to say, “Fear not” or “Be not afraid.” I told myself from then that angels are my people, my Bible people. If and when they appeared to me, I was going to giggle and laugh with delight, because I knew they wouldn’t do me any harm. Angels were my friends. They would never need to say “Fear not” to me. The angel got closer, and as he got closer, I realized it was Jesus! With a sword in His hand! Immediately, a passage from the Bible popped into my mind. It says, “Then I looked, and behold, a white cloud, and on the cloud sat One like the Son of Man, having on His head a golden crown, and in His hand a sharp sickle” (Revelation 14:14 NKJV).

“Oh, my God! Oh, my God! The world is ending today, and I’m not ready to meet God.” I turned away from Jesus, looking for a place to hide. I started running toward a house that had its garage door open. There was no time to draw comparison between a sickle and a sword or between symbolic and literal.

Halfway to the garage, I turned around to see how fast Jesus was gaining on me. But Jesus was no longer moving toward me. He was standing in the air, close to the trees, but now He was holding the sword behind Him with both hands, one on either end. I stopped running, turned, and walked back to him. I was not afraid of Jesus. I wanted to be near Him. I wanted to look at Him and talk to Him, but I was afraid of the sword and judgment. Still wary of the sword, I drew closer. Without opening His mouth, I heard Jesus say, “Go back to church.”
