Lulu's 8th Birthday should be the best day of her life...but she soon realizes that things don't always go as planned. When Lulu struggles to form a bond with her new Pony, she finds herself questioning more than one friendship in her life!
Review: Happy 8th Birthday, Lulu! Her birthday wish was a unicorn. But would she get one this year? Well…close. It turned out that she got a pony instead. Yay!
“I had no way of knowing that the next few weeks would be far from what I had imagined. . . and that sometimes things don’t go as expected…”
Pebbles certainly didn’t look like the other ponies with the short, plump, and ragged appearance, but, to Lulu, she was perfect. Even though she didn’t have a great first impression with Pebbles, she was determined to make this friendship work.
The whole thing focuses on Lulu’s inner thoughts and feelings as she adjusts to having a new pony. Very innocent and caring. Lulu soon begins to wonder what kind of sad past Pebbles might’ve had that made her afraid of humans. “I would NOT give up on my pony.”
Story had an easy, engaging narrative, and was filled with lively, monochromatic illustrations. The art was reminiscent of Roald Dahl’s style (from Matilda.) The enthusiasm just leapt off the pages.
A lovely story about a girl and her pony!
