Book Description:

You can’t outrun the Registration.

Imagine it’s legal to commit one murder in your lifetime⎯if you Register the victim and accomplish the kill within fourteen days. So when Lynell Mize stands in line to Register the man who abused her as a child, she’s shocked to hear a stranger Register her to be killed. Why would anyone who doesn't know her squander his one legal murder on her? Desperate to survive the next two weeks, she must find out who wants to kill her⎯and why.

Easier said than done as Lynell soon discovers that multiple strangers have used their Registration on her. Along the way, she reunites with her estranged husband who is determined to dig up a past Lynell prefers to keep buried. With only days left to live, Lynell fights to uncover the truth and survive a destiny not of her choosing.

Review: It’s Registration Day. At 24, Lynell had been wanting to register the same person for nearly 2 decades. The people have access to true justice and mercy with the Registration. It entitled citizens to kill the person they Registered, no questions asked and no consequences. But it must be done within 2 weeks or else it’s murder. Wow, that was pretty cool. That would definitely be useful.

Lynell had no regrets for what she was about to do. Just when she’s about to Register, she hears her name being called—someone Registering her. Someone was signing up to kill her. But who? And why?

“The gift doesn’t feel like a gift when you’re on the other side.”

Story with a unique premise captivates you from the start.

In a blind panic, Lynell rushes home, where her ex-boyfriend was waiting to take her out of town. Did he know about the Registration? How did he know the man that Registered her? And why was she Registered at all?

“You can never outrun your Registration.” Can you?

She had questions she just had to find out and it seemed the only one that could answer them was Zach Price, the one that Registered her and the one that would kill her within 14 days. Now that he had her, would she get those answers? Would she really die at his own hand?

Little by little, we learn more about what Lynn wants to know. There were 10 people that Registered her? Why? What reward were they after?

It’s just one bombshell after another in this thrilling tale. Lynn’s being rundown and tortured for something that they want. Will she give in…or just keep running?

The chapters summarize each day within the 2-week Registration period. This made the chapters too long. We basically had 14 VERY LONG chapters, which didn’t make it too easy to get through. Although scintillating by the concept and plot, the pace was rather long and slow overall. The excitement wanes a little about half-way through when it just seemed like the characters were waiting around for something. They were hiding, yes, which opened up room for flashbacks and reminiscing—something that was heavily draped over the story. There were still some surprises toward the end, which was good. It kept the reader going ‘til the end because you’re just too curious about it.

All in all, this was a good read with a unique concept. I just wished it was quicker with shorter chapters.
