GENRE: Fiction / Short Stories

BLURB:
Diversity is a delightful collection of short stories taking the reader on a charismatic adventure mixed with suspense, drama, and even humour.
A close shave with death in The Twin, a humorous account of the stubborn character in The Mask, the romantic and comical rendezvous of Burning Love, the ghostly memories of the El Caballo Inn, and so much more!
Gliozzi's exploration of diverse themes invites us to experience and acknowledge the colourfulness of life itself.

Excerpt One:
DISCLAIMER: While some themes in this book may be based on real events, the following stories are fictitious. Certain long-standing institutions, public offices and agencies are mentioned, but the characters involved are entirely imaginary. Any resemblance to actual persons living or deceased is entirely coincidental.
BURNING LOVE
Sal had re-enrolled in a cooking class, only this time to learn about Malaysian cuisine. Entering the large, well-stocked kitchen, he made his way to the allocated cooking station where his buddy Stan was waiting for him.
“Hey, how’s it going, Stan?” he asked, placing his bag on the floor.
“Great.”
He glanced around the room until his eyes caught sight of a familiar, beautiful face. She smiled at him. Sal returned the greeting with a wave. Then, the class began flowing to its end without incident. He could barely concentrate, conscious of the flutters in his stomach.
Afterwards, Yui walked toward him, still smiling.
“Hey, you,” she said shyly.
“Hey. How are things?” he asked, still feeling guilt and embarrassment by what he’d put her through.
“I’m fine, thanks.”
“Maybe we can catch up some time for a coffee?” Sal asked, expecting a polite rejection.
“Maybe,” she replied, smiling.
He watched as Yui walked toward the exit, where she turned one last time and winked.

My review: Two former lovers may get a second chance after a cooking fire incident. A honeymoon at an inn has eternal consequences. A skydiving experience opens up an opportunity for more adventure. During the 2020 pandemic, a hypochondriac and germaphobe loses his only mask he had left. A sister-sister encounter during the holiday.
Lovely and well-written short tales. Each one has its special air of mystery. An easy and well-worth read.
My rating: 4 stars
